Pastor Bruce Smith

The Central Congregational Church has been blessed with many wonderful pastors since it began meeting in a small chapel in 1843. Our current pastor, Rev. Bruce Smith, was raised in a Christian home and is one in a long family line of ministers and missionaries. His grandfather labored for over forty years in South America as a missionary and church planter. His life of faith has remained an inspiration to Pastor Bruce’s life throughout his ministry.

Our pastor is blessed with a wonderful wife named Faith, and is the proud father of six children. In his capacity as husband and father, Pastor Bruce coaches and helps out with many of his kids’ sports teams and enjoys traveling with his family.

Bruce Smith spent his formative years living in North Carolina and Illinois. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Bible Theology with a Biblical Greek emphasis from the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago and a Master of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School of Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois. Pastor Bruce has formally served as a chaplain at the Central Baptist Village in Norridge, Illinois; and a pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; and presently at Central Congregational Church. Pastor Smith was formerly privileged to serve for eight years as a member of the faculty of the Mullein Hill Christian Academy in which he taught Bible within the middle school. He was ordained in the North American Baptist Conference of Churches (NAB) and presently holds ministerial credentials in the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference (CCCC).

Pastor Bruce has used his leadership skills in many areas outside the confines of the local church. He served as Chair of the Church Growth Committee for both the Illinois Association and the British Columbia Association of the North American Baptist Conference. He also was a former member of the National North American Baptist Conference Prayer Task Force representing British Columbia, and a former denominational 4Cs area representative for southeastern Massachusetts.

His personal mission is to help everyone he knows to grow into their full potential in Christ. After the Bible, his favorite books are AW Tozer’s The Pursuit of God and God’s Pursuit of Man (also known by the titles, The Divine Conquest and The Pursuit of Man), as well as anything written by or about Martyn Lloyd-Jones. In his free time you will find him spending time with his family, participating in sports and reading.
